5 Animals With Undeniably Interesting Hair

Humans aren’t the only creatures on this planet with luscious, eye-catching locks. Even animals use their hair (or feathers) to show off or attract the attention of potential mates (or jealous spectators)—I mean, look at the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz. Okay, we know—he’s a fictional character and not actually a real lion at all. But we saw an opportunity to use this picture, and we took it. Anyway, as we were saying, plenty of Earth’s other inhabitants sport a variety of envious hairstyles too. These creatures aren’t looking great just for the hell of it, though. Like humans, the protective covering of an animal serves an actual purpose—aside from giving others something nice to look at. First and foremost,...

The Most Enviable Bleach Blonde Boys

Screen Shot 2016-10-21 at 12.49.11 PM
As a recent transplant to the South from the Northeast, I’m quickly learning that summer tends to hang on a little longer in different parts of the country.  With Halloween a week away and my thermostat reading 92 degrees, I can’t help but cling to summer a bit longer.  Don’t get me wrong, I love fall, but I’m not quite ready to give up the carefree feelings of summer just yet.  These last few days of hot weather hang heavy with denial.  I know soon enough I will wake up and smell in the crisp morning air; that cool September morning feeling of a high school student waking up to the first dreadful day of school, the cold faux leather...

Why A Good Haircut Makes You Feel Like A God

Screen Shot 2016-10-11 at 11.50.52 AM
Getting a great haircut is quite possibly the most criminally underrated act of radical self-improvement that currently exists in society. Sound dramatic? Think about it. Visualize with me, here. You’re staring at yourself in the mirror for the 9th time this morning, dragging yourself through another dreary round of mundane routine accented with bad breath and a cheap-wine-hangover. You stare at your closet full of clothes you’ve worn ten thousand times, longing for a day when you feel revitalized by the sight of your own wardrobe. Chugging another cup of microwaved coffee, you think about a life in which you had enough energy to survive the day ahead of you without the feeling of artificial adrenaline pumping through your body....

Am-HAIR-ican Icons: Southern Fried Edition

Do you ever wake up in the morning and feel the weight of existence pressing heavily on every inch of your feeble, mortal shell? You know—those mornings where the feeling of eternal dread sets in slowly, creeping through your brain like an incurable sickness, engulfing every ounce of happiness you ever held close. Everyone has had those days—days that make you feel like there’s no possibility of even a single shred of joy left in this sad, sick world. But fear not, friends. There is an eternal silver lining. A platinum-blonde beacon of love and kindness. A strong, undefeatable force that almost every single American has grown to know and cherish. That’s right. Dolly Parton’s hair. Now, go with me here. Dolly Parton’s hair...

Food Network Stars’ Hair—Ranked

Screen Shot 2016-08-26 at 12.40.41 PM
We are currently living in the “Golden Age of Television”—a space in time where TV is arguably one of the most celebrated forms of media given the undeniable spike in quality. And we don’t just mean the high-def, unnecessarily colossal screens that you may binge watch the latest season of ‘Orange is the New Black” on—we mean the quality of the stories themselves.  If you are into epic fantasy, you have Game of Thrones. If you’re into a strong narrative, there’s Breaking Bad. If you dig period pieces, you have Mad Men (I will love you forever, Roger Sterling). When Mad Men ended, I had no idea what to turn to. I needed something binge-worthy to fill the void. Quickly,...

Chronicles of a Fake Redhead: A Cautionary Tale

Screen Shot 2016-07-27 at 2.02.48 PM
It was hot. It was really, really hot. It was a heat wave, actually. The air was thick, the clothes were thin, and our upper lips were glistening like the well-oiled chest of an Old Spice model. Ah, the summer of ’69. Actually it was like, 2011. Either way, I was headed to Six Flags with a car load of my closest friends, dreams of funnel cakes and corn dogs running through our heads. I was, obviously, feeling myself in my brand new stretchy floral shorts, plain white t-shirt, and freshly colored auburn curls pulled into the same low-bun I wore at my part time job scooping popcorn at the movie theater. One of my Classic Summer Looks™. This summer, however, was...

Hairstyles You Can Sweat In

Screen Shot 2016-07-25 at 4.45.22 PM
Maybe it’s just me but my biggest reason for not working out is that I don’t have the time or the patience to deal with my hair after it’s over. Sure, I feel motivated and fulfilled once I’ve gotten through a run or a Bikram class, but the idea of managing my curls post-gym sesh is a nightmare. I have my fingers crossed that science will soon develop a sweat-proof blowout but until then, I rely on a few cute hairstyles that will take me from the elliptical straight to the office and out for drinks after work. Plus, we all know a little sweat and dirt never hurt—in fact, it often helps our hair look its best. So stock...

Deliciously Horrible Hair of Yesteryear

Screen Shot 2016-07-22 at 9.58.06 AM
Trends are trends for a reason: we know they’re fleeting. We know they have somewhat of a lifespan. We know they’re not here to stay. It’s as if we are consciously aware that a type of dress or a hairstyle will eventually die out, but we embrace them anyway. But why do we “know” this? Why is a trend a trend? Because it’s too weird— or endearingly stupid—to be a mainstay or a classic? I guess posing that question is like asking why high-heeled sneakers were popular—there is just no logical answer or explanation. I'm no trend expert but I can only make the assumption that we do ridiculous things to ourselves for the sake of  "fashion" because we are all sheep....

How to Survive Summer With Bangs

Screen Shot 2016-07-18 at 1.55.32 PM
Bangs. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, they’ve been gracing foreheads for decades. From pin-up girls on the sides of WWII bombers—who kept the faith alive for the young, strapping men in battle—to Jane Birkin’s sixties-chic iconic fringe, to Zooey Deschanel’s adorable face-framing locks, many ladies (and even men!) have taken the oath to uphold their fringe.  Effortlessly tousled or blunt and sleek, people have been finding different ways to rock bangs with any look.  Personally, I just use them to cover up my five-head (kind of like a forehead, but think bigger), but that’s a personal problem. I have lived with bangs my entire life, excluding my sophomore year of college, a time when I was feeling foolishly bold. The photos...

Men With Better Hair Than Us

Screen Shot 2016-07-15 at 11.53.37 AM
Though we may spend way too much precious time obsessing over our ladies and their gorgeous hair, we certainly can’t ignore all the guys out there who are giving us a run for our money with their fabulous tresses. Here are just a few fellas who have gone above and beyond the crew cut with their enviable locks. We hope that they see this list, call us up, and share their secrets–and maybe ask us out on a date. We are willing to share. Noah Syndergaard and Jason deGrom We may not be Mets fans (Yankees all the way) but we are certainly fans of these guys and their fantastic hair. Cohe Paroix This male model is the definition of hair goals. And bone...
